Field Level Media college basketball writers submitted ballots for their Top 25 men's basketball teams entering the 2026-27 season.

The poll results are in: Here's a closer look at No. 6 Texas.

6. TEXAS

2025-26 record: 21-15

Outlook for 2026-27: After reaching the Sweet 16 as an 11th seed in coach Sean Miller's first season, expectations are high in Austin, with the Longhorns ranked second in the Southeastern Conference preseason poll.

What we like: Everything really is bigger in Texas, where the frontcourt features returning 7-footer Matas Vokietaitis (15.6 points, 7.1 rebounds) and 6-foot-9 five-star freshman Marcus Spears Jr. Forward David Punch is a beast at 6-foot-7 and 245 pounds.

Trouble ahead: The Longhorns face former Big 12 rival Baylor on a neutral floor in San Antonio on Nov. 15 and visit Louisville on Dec. 1. Miller has had mixed results in his second seasons at previous stops: 30-8 at Arizona in 2010-11 and 16-18 at Xavier in 2023-24.

Top newcomer: Colorado transfer Isaiah Johnson finished in the top 10 in the Big 12 with 16.9 points per game last season as a true freshman. Among his nine 20-point games, he scored 28 against then-No. 2 Arizona and 27 against then-No. 22 BYU.
